Taking quality to a new level

Having recognized a dramatic increase in semiconductor obsolescence due to shorter commercial product lifecycles as well as heightened M&A activity, we have identified an opportunity to better serve our customers with expanding authenticity and reliability testing capabilities with a brand new dedicated state-of-the-art quality laboratory.

“Our customers’ reliance on the need to buy non-traceable obsolete material to keep products online requires testing that goes beyond just authenticity testing,” says Mark Baldgya, Commodity Manager for Converge. “We felt to truly serve our customers and their needs, it was essential to add additional levels of testing and inspection.”

We are building a 4,500 sq. ft. space that will house new test equipment to include C-SAM (Confocal Scanning Acoustic Microscopy), SEM-EDS (Scanning Electron Microscopy and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy), nitrogen storage, optical comparator, dip and look solderability testing along with additional X-Ray machines, a new X-Ray Fluorescence  machine and various De-capsulation and solvents testing equipment.

This new equipment and additional capabilities will allow us to perform more in-depth testing at a lower cost as well as shorten lead times for our customers who require these services. Traditionally, it has been our Aerospace & Defense customers who have primarily required these tests, but recently we have started to receive requests from our commercial customers as well.

The lab expansion is scheduled to be complete and begin receiving materials for quality testing at the end of 2020. “We are also expanding our certification portfolio to increase the services we can offer our customers,” says Dwight Gerardi, Quality Manager for Converge.

“The complexity and volatility of today’s electronics supply chain requires an independent distributor with the ability and wherewithal to change, adapt and stay ahead of the curve. This lab expansion is just another example of Converge’s commitment to our customers,” says Mark Baldgya. “Our ability to provide our customers with customizable, best-in-class testing and inspection capabilities at lower cost and with shorter lead times is unparalleled in the industry.”

Along with the new space and equipment, we have opened a new leadership position to manage the lab and the inspection team. If you are interested in learning more about this role or any other open positions, check out our career page.
