Remarketing at the system level is best suited for IT systems that are less than four years old and are in good working condition. Although market conditions fluctuate, there is a strong global demand for older IT systems in good condition, particularly for laptops. In many cases, these systems may have a continued useful life of two to three years, depending on their application.
In remarketing complete IT systems, the decisive factor in determining possible residual value is the age and condition of each item. Similar to actions taken during the purchase of a vehicle, each item is evaluated and graded based upon its overall condition and any visible wear and tear to the device.
Other factors that impact the residual value of a system include the system’s brand name, type, model, configuration and completeness, options, disk capacity, and geographic location.
Prior to remarketing, systems that are suitable for resale are verified, tested, and sanitized in our secure ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified facilities. At that time, all system asset and identification tags are removed to ensure that the system has been properly sanitized.
During the test phase, Converge also offers a comprehensive software identification service that provides an inventory of any software license information, for easier transfer and termination purposes. Properly terminating or transferring software licenses can represent a significant cost-avoidance opportunity by eliminating any licensing penalties that are associated with the transfer of licenses.
Converge also conducts a secure erasure process in strict accordance with U.S. Dept. of Defense 5220.22-M standards. If security requirements require a greater level of defense, drives can be removed and destroyed according to NSA standards, providing an extreme level of data protection.
If it is determined that a system has extensive physical damage and/or the required costs to repair the system cannot be financially justified, the system will be dismantled and its saleable components harvested and sold to capture further value.
