Converge Helps Clients Dispose of Over 35 Million Pounds of Obsolete Computer Equipment in 2006

Peabody, MA., July 31, 2007—Converge, a leading independent distributor of electronic components, technology products and supply chain services, today announced that it has helped large enterprise clients dispose of over 35 million pounds of excess, obsolete and retired electronic equipment in 2006. Of the material processed, approximately 25 million pounds were remarketed globally for reuse, generating residual value for Converge’s customers.

Through Converge’s disposition, recycling, and remarketing programs, the company helped keep almost 450,000 monitors, 66,000 printers, 80,000 computers and 67,000 servers out of landfills in 2006. Organizations that work with Converge and its IT asset disposition division were also able to recover more than $28 million in residual value from their remarketed electronic equipment, utilizing Converge’s global exchange and distribution network.

“It is critical that businesses take a proactive approach to their IT asset disposal processes, especially as stringent environmental legislation surrounding e-waste becomes law and public perception of ‘green’-oriented companies grows,” stated Frank Cavallaro, chief executive officer, Converge. “Our team of professionals at Converge and NextPhase were able to keep over 35 million pounds of electronic waste out of landfills in 2006, and in the process, aid our customers in regaining tremendous residual value from their obsolete electronic equipment.”

Converge's global presence and over a quarter century of remarketing expertise allows its enterprise customers to compliantly dispose of obsolete electronic equipment while generating residual value, which, in turn, can offset much of the processing costs. The company’s unique ability to access companies around the globe that utilize trailing edge technology for reuse also has a significant impact on the amount of electronic materials that enter the waste stream.

In 2004, Converge founded its IT asset disposition division, a unit focused upon demand for compliant IT asset disposal services among its Fortune 1000 customers. Converge offers end-to-end electronics recycling, disposition and remarketing services, and provides businesses a transparent view of their assets throughout the chain of custody, utilizing its online Asset Manager reporting tool.
